Library Book Check-Out Policy, ECE-5th Grades:
All students at Steck are encouraged to check out books every week. Each student will have a shelf marker with their barcode attached to it. They will use their shelf markers to access their accounts. The library system allows for a 2-week check out period. Since most students come into the library weekly for check out, they are encouraged to return books on their (weekly) assigned check-out day and then check out new books. Students are always allowed to renew books as needed.

ECE students will visit the library the last half of the year on Mondays after lunch. They will keep their library books in the ECE classroom.

Kindergarten & 1st grade students must bring in a permission slip signed by a parent in order to check out books on their own during their library time. This is to make sure students and parents are aware of the replacement cost of lost books and to assist younger children with remembering their books on check out day. Kindergarten and 1st grade students are allowed to check out 1 book each week on their own. Please check with your child's teacher for the specific day/time your child has for book check out. Parents are always welcome to check out additional books with their child before and after school (8:00-8:15 am. & 3:15-3:30 pm.) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

2017-18 Kinder/1st grade permission form:

2nd grade students may check out up to 2 books per week.

3rd – 5th grade students may check out up to 3 books per week.

Lost Books: The DPS district policy requires students who lose or damage school materials to pay for them. Students with lost or damaged library books will not be allowed to check out additional books from this or any other DPS school until payment is made. In general, the cost of a paperback book is $6.00 and the cost of a hardcover book is $15.00, although prices may vary depending on the individual title. Cash or checks payable to Steck Elementary are accepted and a receipt for payment will be given to the student.

If a student has an overdue library book, the librarian will send a friendly reminder notice home. If the book has been overdue for more than a month, the notice will also include the replacement cost of the book. If a parent is unable to make immediate payment, please contact the school librarian, Mr. Almon, to make arrangements for gradual payment of the book.
